http://www.oysterbar.co.jp/gumbo/nakasu.html

I cancelled my training at the gym and went out for dinner with Mr. Ogata last night. Mr. Ogata was supposed to work till our meeting time, I decided where we were going. We went to this oyster bar in Nishi-Nakasu. I was excited to go there since I had wanted to go there for a while. We had awesome oysters and tasty champaign over there. In addition to that, we somehow decided to have ramen noodle after the oyster bar. Mr. Ogata always comes and leaves like tornado, but I really respect him. Anyway, the oyster was soooooooooo good!! Somebody bring me back there!!

A song called Turning Japanese sometimes run through my mind ever since I came back to Japan. Some of my friends teased me for this song. This song totally makes fun of the Japanese, but it is actually hilarious. The reason I take this song and other materials that make fun of Japanese culture as a joke is that those materials actually has a point. They are not wrong in some way. My favorite comedian, Chris Farley played main charater role in this film "Beverly Hills Ninja." This makes fun of Japan, but it is pretty funny. You should watch it when you simply would like to laugh without thinking. Anyway, we can see how people in different countries think of Japanese through those material.

~Turning Japanese~

I've got your picture of me and you
You wrote "I love you" I love you too
I sit there staring and there's nothing else to do
Oh it's in color Your hair is brown
Your eyes are hazel And soft as clouds
I often kiss you when there's no one else around

I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I'd like a million of you over myself
I asked the doctor to take your picture
So I can look at you from inside as well
You've got me turning up and turning down
And turning in and turning 'round

I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
...

No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women
No fun, no sin, no you, no wonder it's dark
Everyone around me is a total stranger
Everyone avoids me like a psyched lone-ranger
Everyone
That's why I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so

Rodrigo and I

I found one article that interested me. It was a column, written by Jeremy Walker on Voice of Germany website. He named the title " The Arrogance Of the Brazilian Soccer Fans," and described what happened after Japan-Brazil game in Dortmund. The argument from his point of view was interesting and I appreciate the fact that he was compassionate towards Japan and he appreciates the Japanese national character more than anything. I am rather upset at the Japanese fans, though, for not speaking back when they were made fun of. He claims that the Brazilian fans are not as supportive as English fans when the team needs help, and they are simply arrogant for being the best in the world in soccer. Brazilian fans are incosiderate of Japanese to laugh at and make fun of them. It might be true, and they needed to be more polite, but the Japanese fans there were merely smiling and did not speak back to them. Speak them back in whatever language you are capable of understanding and express your annoyance for God's sake!! I personally think that many Brazilians are good people and they like Japanese. They would understand your annoyance and shut up if you show it. Thus, I believe that it is much easier for us to understand the Brazilians than the people, who are talkative, but self-centered and lie, across the pacific ocean. By the way, we are not going to eat the beef from there!! hahaha Anyway, Brazilians are cheap (should I call it thrifty?), but have good hearts, right Rodrigo?

0000000002417691 ←TIESTO~JUST BE~俺の神様。

884 ←Ministry of Sound 2006 "Clubbers Guide 2006"俺のドライブ用CD。

(CD jackets above are my favorite CDs at the moment.)

I kind of started to figure out what I want to do for living since I quit the travel agency. I would like to be involved in English education somewhat. I took my first TOEIC test and scored decent. I did not think the questions were difficult. All you need to do to score high in TOEIC is to get used to English. I would like to teach people how easy English is and how to score high in exams, and help people who would like to study abroad. A new English teacher, Mr Imai sounds good!! Thus, I am going to seek someone who would like to learn English from me!! Please let me know if there is any:)

B0002vl0z601 「06_bless_the_broken_road.wma」をダウンロード

"Bless The Broken Road" ~Rascal Flatts~
I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

I think about the years I spent just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

Now I'm just rolling home
Into my lover's arms

This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you.

2006062304533238jijpspoview001

Japan's challenge, with coach Zico, at the FIFA World Cup Soccer 2006 ended this morning. How the game turned out was quite heart breaking, but the Japanese team showed their spirits by scoring the first goal of the game even though they ended up losing. They did what they could do and left everything in the pitch. They were still not enough for the victory over world's best Brazil. What interested me most at the game was how Japanese players expressed their feelings after the game. Hidetoshi Nakata and Shunsuke Nakamura got my attention, especially, amongst the players. Nakamura was struggling to gather his thought and express it in an appropriate way when he was interviewed right after the game. Nakato fell on the ground and could not stand back up for a while and his eyes were red. I could totally see his disappointment and it was touching. His disappointment reminded me of my Olympic trial in 2000. At the selection, I got 3rd in the 100 meters breaststroke and my life long dream to make the olympic team was shut right then. My brain got blacked out and could not stand up at the warm-up pool for while. Media guys asked for my comment for not making the olympic team in the worst timing and it was brutal. I imagine that Nakata and Nakamura felt the same as I felt back in 2000. Nakata's determination and commitment have been broadcasted, and we all could see that. He was not afraid of the emotional crash with his teammates because it was for the team's triumph. His attitude towards his teammates indicates his international background. His Japanese teammates, however, took it personally. It is very unfortunate that a majority of the Japanese tend to avoid argument and people who go straight up and try to have an argument. I sometimes feel like I do not belong here. I am sure Nakata feels the same way.

Hamurabi ←ハンムラビ法典(ルーブル美術館蔵)The Code of Hammurabi in the Louvre

The Babylonian king Hammurabi established the Code of Hammurabi which is well know for "Eyes to Eyes" today. You can see the the Code of Hammurabi in the Louvre now.   I like the idea of the Hammurabi Code for its' fairness. I was born in the society where everything seem to be there for me and covenient, but I acutally wish I was born in the society that can be incovenient and fair. Supreme court's verdict upon a murder case in Yamaguchi prefecture has been controvercial these days. The killer would be dead if we judge the homicide case based upon the Code of Hammurabi. I mentioned about the equality of life in the last blog, but if we think about the equality of life here, the only option the killer has to make it up is only to end his own life. The accused's letter for redemption is broadcased on TV, but he is actually running a campaign to save his own life. Did this killer, nevertheless, give the killed mother and her daughter a chance to save their lives?  In my opinion, he killed two civilians to satisfy his sexual desire and he has no right to defend his own life in the court. Japanse court treats rapers and sexual criminals unreasonablly nice in the first place. For example, a sexual predetor, Issei Sagawa, killed a Dutch university student in 1981. He raped her and ate her flesh after murdering her. He was deported to Japan 3 years after the murder. Now he is actually living as a writer and is allowed to live in the society with no restriction whatsoever. I think it is outrageous because those sexual criminals should be suspended from the society for life. What is wrong with Japanse justice system?

Hogei ←

Do you know what IWC is? It is not the watch company over here. IWC here is International Whaling Commission. Recently, IWC decided, in a small coutry called St. Christpher and Nevis, that today's commercial whaling cannot be a threat to whales' extinction. According to IWC's report, the number of whales has been increasing. I suppose it is a good news for us, Japanse, that have developed culture by whaling. We are still far away from acutually start whaling again though, since 3/4 of all coutries vote is required to start it. Many countries still oppose whaling. I wonder, however, why those coutry insist on forbidding whaling, whereas a bunch of cows, chickens, and pigs are killed to become our food. What makes whales superior to other marmals? I believe all species have equal right to live. We need to take some lives away in order to live. We are all carrying karma. Even vegitarians actually take away plants lives. They just do not have mouths to speak for their rights. All the life is equal on this planet. It just sounds very hypocritical when I hear about some western countries' campaign for anti-whaling and it is more or less the idea of racism.

I just came back from the movie theater. I went to see "The Da Vinci Code." Since a majority of the Japanese is atheist, the movie was just another movie, but it became controversial in many Christian countries. According to the New Testament, Jesus Christ was a son of Virgin Mary, and resurrected after the death from torture. He went up to heaven and became immortal. In the history book, Jesus Christ officially became God after the council of Nicea. Roman emperor Constantine's attempt to unify a nation under one national religion, Christianity rejected the words of Arius at the council. In the movie, story goes based upon the theory that there is living descendant of Jesus Christ in today's society and Priory of Sion has been protecting the descendants over the centuries. By the way, I have several things to protect myself. I protect my pride, my family, and my friends. If anyone tries to hurt any of above. I will do my best to destroy him/her.

I suddenly realized that the world I see nowadays is much smaller than it was when I was younger. I have been to about 20 countries ever since I visited Spain and Portugal when I was 14. In Berlin and Stockholm, I took subways and wander around alone. I got into arguments when I was in Paris and Brussels. I crossed the border by car and Talis when I visited my ex-girlfriend in Holland. I was trying to take the closest look at people's lives in the countries I visited. Not many cultural differences do not surprise me ,thanks to my experiences, today. I was rather surprised at Japanese tourists who depend on others and do not even realize the fact that they actually annoy people around. Anyway, how I see the world and Japanese culture is built based upon those experiences. I suddenly lost the opportunities to visit foreign coutries in the last 2 years, however, and I feel like I lost my wings to fly to wherever freely. I am now like a penguin. I cannot even believe myself taking care of those Japanese tourists whom I have been annoyed at the travel agency. My life suddenly became intranational from international. I understand eveybody goes through this and eventually a lot of people give up dreaming about foreign coutries. However, I do not want to give my hope to visit and possibly live in foreign countries again. It might be difficult at the moment, but I really hope I will acquire a new wing and fly away in the near future.

Korea beat Togo. It was the first triumph for the Asians, and I suppose we should be happy if we think about aquiring more spots for Asian countries for the next world cup soccer in South Africa. Congratulations!! I stayed up to watch my favorite player, Zidane, at the France and Switerland game. I had about an hour to kill till the game, and I was flipping the channel. Then, I found this interesting program on TBS net. It is called"Aichiteru." Girls from foreign countries argue over issues the entire program,  but I thought it was hilarious!! It seems like this program has been out there for a while, but I found it 2 days ago since I merely watch news and sports on TV at nights. The gaijin girls on the program were basically out of control and the argument went on a tangent, but each of their opnion was unique, and somewhat I could see those girls' cultural backgrounds through what they said. I used to hang out with this Brazilian, Rodrigo, and a Hungarian, Tamas  heaps when I was back in the US. I am sure we looked exactly the same when we argued over things as the girls on TV. It was only the difference of the language. They taught me both good things and bad things. I really cherish the memories with them and their wisdom(?).

I trust that everybody is very tired from being up till late for Japan's game against Australia. I am as disappointed as everybody else. I could not even fall asleep after the game, and I am sure many people had hard time sleeping, as well. Well... I actually I was up after the game bacause I wanted to watch the following Czech Republic and USA though. It broke my heart to see Japanese players struggling to win over western coutnries. Especially, Australia does not even have tradition in soccer, and we still lost to them. It seemed like there is a huge physique issue to overcome in order to stay competitive against someone like Australia in sports and it is not something you can improve instantly. It is definitely the Japanese's sorrow for disadvantage in sports. Fortunately, I am well built thanks to my parents and had never been intimidated in terms of my physical, but there are some who never get bigger and have to deal with the complex for a long time no matter how much time they spend in the weight room. Anyway, it is extremely difficult for the "Samurai Blue" Japanese soccer team at this point, but I really hope the players to do the best they can in the pitch, and enjoy the world cup soccer. By the way, I am truly grateful to the Czech Republic soccer team for kicking the cocky Americans' butts!! I really wish either Rosicky, Nedved, or Koller on the Czech team will immigrate to Japan and play for us. hahaha

VIVA LA COUPE DE MONDE!!

The World Cup Soccer has begun at last!! I took a nap and being prepared for tonight's Japan-Australia game. I wish I could go to Germany and watch the game though. I got to see it last world cup in 2002. Australian team's talent and strong physical are definitely threat for the Japanese team, but Japan's experence from the last 2 world cups is not what Australia has. I really hope Japan to win over Australia!! I personally root for Holland. There are many talented players on the team, and I even went to see one of their qualifying matches in Amsterdam last year!! They are amazing!! I believe that Holland is going to shock the world. From what I have been watching on TV, the impressive team so far is Trinidago and Tobago. They played against Scandinavia's talented team Sweden. Sweden has world famous Ibrahimovic and Larsson. Trinidado and Tobago tied Sweden with 0-0, however, although one guy got sent off right after the second half started. It was almost a miracle!! This world soccer festival will go on for a month. I am sure I will have heaps of sleepless nights!!

I came back from Korea. I enjoyed the country myself and found many differences during my trip. Some say that Koreans and Japanese are almost the same, but I disagree with them upon that. I am sure that we have some things in common, but we are fundamentally different. First of all, the picture of Park Chi son(?), who currently plays for Manchester United, was everywhere for the upcoming World cup soccer and everybody were dressed in red t-shirts. Red is Korean national soccer team's color and the whole nation has one notion to stand behind the team and support them. The Koreans tend to gather with one notion unlike the Japanese. I saw the pictures of Bae Yoonjoon everywhere, as well. Even he was wearing the red t-shirt  in the picture. Second of all, Koreans are nice in general, but has different sense of humor and they are up tight compared to the Japanese. Third of all, from what I saw, the city of Seoul is nice to handicapped residents. There are not many crosswalks and people have to go through underground tunnel to cross the streets. However, those tunnels do not have elevators. Furthermore, there are shops on the stairs for the tunnels. Even most people sometimes have a hard time going up and down. If you walk on the streets, they are not flat and slopes to put harder tasks on handicapped people. It's been said that America is in adavance of Japan by 20 years. I felt like I was seeing Japanese 20 years ago. I am sure that Korea is advanced in many ways, but how I judge the coutry is based upon public transportation and service for handicapped people. It is a nation's duty to build a city in which everybody feels comfortable to live.

This is really short and impersonal, but I am going to Korea with my brother tomorrow. My brother is a busy man and would like to relax in a foreign country. I will go to Korea to keep him company. I don't know what to expect over there since it is going to be my first visit there, but I hope that I will change my opinion about the country. I have to admit that I am prejudiced against Korea. We will see how I think of the country after coming back from there. I tell you one thing, though, that Kakeshima island belongs to Japan. Anyway, I will try to have a good time and refresh my mind there. I will write more when I come back.

I actually do not swim much, but I go to the gym near by and work out 2-3 times a week. The reasons I go to the gym are relaxation and slowing down a major collapse of my body shape. I currently prefer working out at the gym and studio to swimming because I am too used to energy conservation in swimming training and it takes a long time and a long distance to burn my calories, I burn more calories at the gym. I do not work out to improve my swimming now, but I believe that dry land traing that I am doing at the gym has been making me swim fast enough to make the national cuts. I personally believe that dry land training can replace swimming training for competitive swimmers. Swimming training is basically boring since you have to swim back and forth within a small swimming pool. Plus, if you are doing the same sort of training over and over again, the effectiveness of training gets smaller. Thus, I would propose young swimmers to do workout which has both swimming training and dry land training. It will make your every day training more fun, and will make you stronger and faster!! A majority of swimmers out there believe that they are supposed to suffer from training in order to swim faster, but it is not fun. You really have to have a room to enjoy what you are doing even if you are working hard and doing a hard set to improve your swimming. It will be a lot of fun if you find a way to enjoy your training. Anyway, I like my training style and I would recommend it to you, too!!
